Why you should care about Microvoids

The problem with planar microvoids is that most times you don't know that they even exist until after a product failure occurs. The microvoids have shown to have a substantial negative impact on solder joint reliability. Inferior solder joint strengths translate into defective products, which result in product failures, customer returns and lost revenue.

Planar microvoids are the most difficult to prevent, since their precise cause is not fully understood. Coating at the lowest plating thickness required has proven to be beneficial to reduce this occurrence.
