Intel: AlphaSTAR vs. Historical Production Data

AlphaSTAR has fewer microvoids and less variablity than Historical Data.

Based on six months of production data, AlphaSTAR immersion silver clearly demonstrated substantially fewer microvoids and less variability than competitive immersion silver processes employed by Intel. As illustrated in the graph above, AlphaSTAR was well within the acceptance range for microvoids. These encouraging results warranted Intel to further validate AlphaSTAR by constructing a design of experiment (DOE) that would test AlphaSTAR under extreme process conditions, utilizing different microetches, variable plating times and different PWB fabrication suppliers.
